When I visit the Microsoft Update Site, I keep getting the error code
0x8024402C. I have followed all the steps listed to resolve this
issue, but nothing is working. I have to manually search for and
install any updates.

The code 8024402C means:

"Winhttp SendRequest/ReceiveResponse failed with 0x2ee7 error. Either the
proxy server or target server name can not be resolved. Corresponding to
ERROR_WINHTTP_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED. Stop/Restart service or reboot the machine
if you see this error frequently."

So I suggest that you should check your web proxy settings in control panel
Internet Options, and the in the command "proxycfg". Open a command window
and type the command:

proxycfg -?

for more information. If this is a PC at a workplace, you should check with
your IT department whether they have any required proxy settings to be
configured to enable Microsoft Update.
