Re: flash player cannot be updated

From what I can tell, the source of this issue (assuming one is alreadyrunning a version of Flash later than 6.0.79) is two-fold.
Firstly, when a later Flash version has been installed, the old Flash.ocx
file has not been deleted. This is apparent with later versions which don't
use a file named flash.ocx. For example, I have v8.0.24.0 and the file is
named Flash8a.ocx.
Then, Windows Update detects the old flash.ocx file and attempts to install
the fix. At that point, it seems to realise that there is, in fact, a later
version installed and the update fails.
The real solution (for Windows Update) is for Microsoft to detect the
correct version that is currently installed.
The simple workaround is to delete flash.ocx (or just ranem it if you wish
to be cautious).

Thanks for your information..
The manual application of the update refuses to work, even though I do have
Fash 8.0.24.0.
However, windows update now believes I do not need to install any more
updates, so I guess everything is OK.
But I am still left with some doubts because I haven't seen a 'successful'
install of the KB193433 update.

<snip> I managed to get it sorted by manually updating it.
Internet Explorer --> Internet Options
Settings
View Objects
Right Click the Shockwave Flash Object and choose Update.
This should update it to version 8.0.24.0. I then done a Windows Update and
the Flash Update was no longer showing up. <snip>

| The WORKAROUND does not work either.
| I uninstalled Flash, then installed the latest version
| (C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash8b.ocx dated 31/3/2006). I rebooted.
| The KB913433 update still says I have the wrong version of Flash for the
| update.
