Update Error 0x8007041D - Solution

Windows Update Error Code 0x8007041D
After 8 months of work, I finally got an answer and solution.

I did not have the NOD32 Anti-virus stuff so that did not work.

BITS and AUTOUPDATE in "services" would not start. You need to check this
first. If these do not work, then you will have to do the following solution.

- HOW TO CHECK BITS and AUTOUPDATE
Select "START"
Select "RUN"
Then type in "services.msc" - no quotes
Then click "OK"
Then check AUTOUPDATES
Under the "GENERAL" tab it should be set to automatic and started.
If is not started, then try to start it. If you get an error you have a
problem
Now check BITS (Background Intelligent Transfer)
Click BITS
Under the "GENERAL" tab, it should be set to automatic or manual and it
should
be started.
If it not started, try to start it. If you get an error, you have a
problem.

Now go to the solution.

---- SOLUTION ----
I understand that we still cannot start the Automatic Updates and BITS
services.

It can be some system components are corrupted. At this time, I suggest we
reinstall Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) to troubleshoot the issue.
Reinstalling SP2 can remedy most system components.

Let’s perform the following steps:

Step 1:

==========

Download the full installation package of Service Pack 2 from the following
website:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/1/6/5/165b076b-aaa9-443d-84f0-73cf11fdcdf8/WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe

(Download will take about 20 minutes)

Please click “Save” when prompted to “Save” or “Run” the file, then please
save the file on the Desktop.

Step 2:

==========

Restart the computer in Safe Mode to have a stable environment to install
Service Pack 2.

1. Restart the computer and keep pressing the F8 key until the Windows
Startup menu appears.

2. Choose Safe Mode, and press Enter to start the computer in Safe Mode.

(You may want to backup any really important files - like financial - you
have before you do this...I did not, and nothing bad happened, but it can.)

The please double click the downloaded file "WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe"
on the Desktop to install SP2.

(Install will take about 20 minutes)

Note: In Safe Mode, the system display and Desktop will look and perform
differently than in Normal Mode. This is only temporary. To return the system
back to Normal Mode, we can simply restart the computer.

After installing SP2, please restart the computer and access the Windows
Update site to check the issue.

Then restart your computer. It will probably go through some checks, and
then start normally.

Then attempt to access the windows update site. Go to internet tools, MS
Update.

It worked for me, I hope it works for you.

PS - I am not a computer geek, I am just a general user, so if I can do it,
so can you.

Rob
