Re: how to remove updates ready to install

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Remove WU downloads from the temporary folder:-

Stop the Automatic Updates service

Click Start, Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Stop.
Stopping the service will take a moment.

Delete the contents of the Download folder
Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
Click OK.
Open the Download folder.
Delete all contents of the Download folder.
Close the window.

Start the Automatic Updates service
Click Start. Choose Run.
In the Run box, type services.msc.
Click OK.
Right-click the Automatic Updates service.
Click Start.
Starting the service will take a moment.

By deleting the contents of the Download folder - you have removed any
downloaded updates.

using xp home sp2 dell 4600. have updates set to notify, but don't download
or install. since i restored back to a time prior to installing recent
updates, my yellow shield is present in the system tray. when clicked it
shows 7 updates ready to install. i must have clicked the shield when it was
notifying, & downloaded them by mistake. they're waiting to be installed.

is there a way to remove them without installing them first? i do not want
old downloads. i'm hoping for replacements that will allow me to "save web
page" on this machine, & files in word "save as" on work xp pro machine.

thank you, len kiesling
