Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi,

Please could you spare a mo to walk us through how to 'find' this
registry key(?) and what to do when we get there to check these
mysterious 'permissions'.
I have never before had reason to do anything in my registry and am
not even sure how to find it!!

OK. If you are not sure, please refrain from making any change to the
registry and ask someone who is more familiar with Regedit.

(login as administrator)

1. Start | Run - Enter Regedit. OK
2. In the left pane, under My Computer, find the key named
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. Select it and expand it.
3. Type 'l', 'e', 'g', 'i', . Regedit will incrementally search for
"legi" and bring you to a subkey under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT named
"LegitCheckControl.LegitCheck". It is far away from the top of the
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT branch.
4. Right-click on this subkey and select "Permissions".
5. Administrators and SYSTEM should appear in the top list of the dialog
box that will popup.
6. Select Administrators and click on the Advanced button.
7. In the Permissions tab, Administators should have Full Control. Ditto
for SYSTEM
8. If this is the case, cancel all dialogs and go to step 10
(everything's ok - this is not the reason for which you cannot install).
9. If this is "not" the case:
9.1 Close the current dialog (Advanced security settings for
LegitCheckControl.LegitCheck)
9.2 In Permissions for LegitCheckControl.LegitCheck, select
Administrators and check Full Control. Select SYSTEM and check Full
Control.
9.3.Click OK.

10. Proceed similarly (from step 4) with the
LegitCheckControl.LegitCheck.1 subkey which is just after
LegitCheckControl.LegitCheck.

Try again to install. This may or may not fix your problem.
