I just went through all the procedures listed on
http://wiki.castlecops.com/Malware_Removal_and_Prevention:_Overview.
One note though - I get this message in HijackThis.log file:
"Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
MSIE: Unable to get Internet Explorer version!"
As I said previously IE has been malfunctioning since I first begun
attempting this update. I normally use another browser (Maxthon- which does
use the IE engine).
I am still unable to install update.

Save WindowsXP-KB905915-x86-ENU.exe to the Desktop.
After the download is completed close Internet Explorer and then install
it.
Did that work ? If not, when was the last time the system was scanned
for the presence of malware ?
