Re: Windows Genuine Advantage (KB892130) Failed in Windows Update

Hi Shane

Thanks for the suggestion .....though I logged in as an admin but I
receive(d) an access is denied error and a message at the end that says
"partially updated"

I have forwarded my WGA.log file to gacald@xxxxxxxxxxxxx as suggested
in earlier post by Gary Caldwell.

From reading all the other posts in this thread I would suggest that
Carey Frisch might do better at PR by making an apology for the
statement that sparked so many responses. Also looked for the "update
today" promised on 3/4/06 but have not found that.

I can not remember who it was that made mention to the
WindowsUpdate.log
file that is located in the windows directory, but it gave me the
information
that I needed to get past the failed update error.

In the WindowsUpdate.log file it goes through all sorts of
information and
from what I can see it has a complete history from the beginning of
time. I
searched for 892130 and found a reference to the following file and
location

http://tinyurl.com/ephyf

I downloaded the file using wget. ( I suspect that MSIE or any other
web
browser would download the file as well.) I then renamed it to:

WindowsXP-KB892130-ENU-x86.exe

This name was listed in the WindowsUpdate.log file as well.

I then ran the file using an account that had admin rights. It took
some
time, but when i completed the download I tested teh windows update
site once
more and ended up with successful results.

So if you want to get past the error download the patch manually
using the
address above and you should be good to go.

I hope this can resolve the issue for anyone who finds this post.

I tried the easier solutions to this problem..the ones microsoft

left for

this is a
problem being had by lots of folks, I am more keen on doing nothing
and
waiting for MS to fix the problem which they should do right? Or is
that
wishful thinking? * -update today- :aaa :angry
