The tool (genuinecheck.exe) was made available as a stand-alone download when the WGA Programme was first introduced well over a year, or more, ago. It had to be loaded from FILE/RUN under Internet Explorer, and upon successful Windows Platform validation it would open the corresponding web-page needed to insert the "Validation Code" and complete the process, with this information then being written to the Windows Registry, and an un-installer routine written at the following Registry Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{63569CE9-FA00-469C-AF5C-E5D4D93ACF91}
This entry does not show up, and never has, under the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs Dialogues, being suppressed in some fashion or another. To date the existence of this Key in the Windows Registry is an end-user's only sure-fire proof that the Tool was actually ever run, and it having returned an authentic "Validation Code". This Key only gets written upon successful completion of the routine.
Hope this helps.

Yes ..being able make a manual install would certainly help....I have done this easily with one or two security patches in the past...but I have looked in vain for this so called 'tool' KB892130..
I don't think they want us to have it!
I have also read some alarming work-arounds posted by MPV's(?) involving all sorts of command prompting and registry stringing.
But I'm just an ordinary Joe!! The last thing I want to do is learn to rewrite code and scripting!....my degree is in Music not computer programming!!

I cannot run Windows Update on my Windows XP machine because of this
problem. I have seen many reports of this same problem on this ng, and
recently too.
To summarize, when I run Windows Update from Internet Explorer, IE
tries to install a new copy of "Windows Genuine Advantage Validation
Tool." The download succeeds, but the install fails. Perusing the web
pages reveals that the install of KB892130 failed.
The suggestions posted to this ng have been uniformly unhelpful. It
would be really nice if I could download a complete copy of the
KB892130 software, and try to install it myself, from a local .exe,
..msi, or .CAB file. I could experiment with running the software from
a SYSTEM account, and so forth.
So is this software available for manual download from Microsoft?
