Re: New Drive XP Fresh Install - Reboots after SP2 upgrade

Have the latest BIOS for your motherboard? There were some early problems
with SP2 and certain processors/chipsets.

It's been almost a whole month and there were four people that found the
article helpful, but no replies helping my situation. I still am stuck
with
a fresh install of XP Pro with no SP1 or SP2. My system runs great and I
run
a tight network with perimeter protection, but I prefer to have the latest
software and security updates. If anyone has experienced this problem of
continuous reboots after installing either the SP1 or SP2 service packs,
typically at the agp440 process, I would appreciate a reply.

I purchased a new HD and installed a stand-alone, non-domain, fresh copy
of
XP 4x with same end results.
First steps: Immediately after installing XP, I ran MS Update and
installed
latest update and rebooted. Ran MS Update again and installed SP2.

1st & 2nd attempts: System rebooted continuously even when I tried the
various Safe Mode and LKGC options. I then turned off reboot option in the
Windows Advanced Options boot menu and got the BSOD STOP 0x0000007B
(0xF8FC7528, .) error message. I ran through the various KB articles and
then
through the various aumha.org articles with the same end results.

3rd attempt: I disabled the agp440 service through the Recovery Console
and
had the same end results. The system would reboot at the mup service when
attempting the Safe Mode options. System rebooted continuously even when I
tried the various Safe Mode and LKGC options. I got the same BSOD STOP
error
again.

4th attempt: I tried the repair option rather than deleting the partition
for a fresh install. All seemed well as the system finally made it much
further than just the first two bars on the startup splash screen. The
system
then rebooted again and I disabled the reboot option in the boot menu to
get
a Stop: c0000135 error. Going through the KB once again, there were no
resolutions that prevented the same end results.

I'd rather not be pointed to any of these KB articles as is typical of the
