wuauclt.exe is not the service. It is just the client process.
The service (wuauserv) should be running. You will not see it
like that in the Task Manager, even in the Processes tab.
Either use the services.msc GUI to see it or the command
I gave you (in a cmd window).
Apparently some XP Home users don't have any tools for seeing
such things in the cmd window. In that case you would have to
make do with the services.msc GUI. (Actually you should also
be able to use the net start command in a cmd window to at least
see if Automatic Updates is listed as one of the active services
but it won't show you whether it is healthy or not.)

Assuming you are looking at the TM Processes tab for this
and that you have /Show processes from all users/ checked,
what account is it running under? (e.g. yours or SYSTEM?)
I can't remember if User Name is one of the columns which
shows in that tab by default; if it's not showing use the View menu
to make it show.

If you are actually seeing wuauclt.exe listed under Processes
this is obviously a bogus message, e.g. a flawed attempt at interpreting
some other error symptom for you. E.g. perhaps wuauclt.exe
uses some of those wuau... .dlls and that is where the failure is.
Have you tried doing the standard regsvr32 commands many
here advise trying? Use the WU troubleshooter if you want to find
an "official" sanction of that procedure.

You could try requesting verbose logging.
See the section "<h3>How to enable extended logging</h3>
in here:
<title>KB902093 - How to read the Windowsupdate.log file</title>
Alternatively you could try running FileMon to supplement the logging.
The filter that I find useful in that case is: SoftwareDistribution;update;CatRoot
and in this case you could probably highlight wuauclt.
Another thing that this does is include the actual writes to the WU log
(e.g. because of the update; filter). So then you can correlate
activity in the FileMon trace with each log message (as inferred
by the length of the record in the log). (The length of the record
in the log can be ascertained by using Notepad's Status bar
with Word Wrap off.)
