If the problem is that prolific there would be more news about it out
there. I do however suspect (looking out the hole in my left blinder
jerk) that if I start with the original and take it thru SP1 then SP2 I
might run into a similar problem. But if you consider that I have about
50 apps plus utilities that have been added to the mix that means of
those 50 apps one could causing a conflict. I was the lead tech at a
store front shop two years ago and problems like these ALWAYS got
cleared up by completely Fresh install. That means installs where there
are no error messages incurred on the way to the final product. I wish I
had the time to take my original release XP Pro up to current status
just to verify this point. Now if someone is using odd brand mftr
parts, off brand motherboards, etc. they probably werent ever used in
the beta cycles but I use ASUS MB's and only well tested, commonly used
video cards and drivers. When an operating system has 10 to 20 thousand
files something going South in 18 months is not at all unconceivable.
If you really think the OS is so bad a fresh install in most cases wont
cure the problem I suggest you find a lawyer and get togehter a class
action suit.
NOTE: I implemented five suggestions in all to resolve the Updates
failing problem and am much closer to a solution. The best one is
making sure a site something like v5. windowsupdate.yada yada is fully
accessible. Once I did that at least MS didnt skip over the DL process
of the updates in one half a second. I just think MS is happy as long
as 95% of the platforms out there work and only those that have nothing
third party on them. I feel certain they or the 3rd partiese are going
to start offering up more fixes in the future for problems that many at
least relate to just sites being blocked by one thing or another.
Good Day.
