<LOL> Jason, in your first thread you wrote the code with too few zeros;
now you have given it too many. <W> Either way makes searches unlikely
to be helpful. Please note that all such codes usually represent a value
contained in a 4 byte word so each will almost always be specified by
8 hexidecimal characters. (The 0x prefix is most common but may be omitted.)

You are using the web interface to newsgroups so let's start by searching
for previous references to the (correctly typed) code:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?query=0x8024001D&dg=microsoft.public.windowsupdate&cat=en_US_70d5063d-952b-4fd2-95c3-10743a87d4a9&lang=en&cr=US&pt=1fb9885a-6840-48df-b845-31a5188de97a&catlist=&dglist=&ptlist=b98385db-74c8-49c7-8c83-92c6098f9589&exp=&sloc=en-us
Click on the Show: filter dropdown and select Answered questions.
There are two, both by MVP responders.
This is actually lucky because more often such answers go unmarked.
Similarly you can try using the Threads with helpful posts filter but that
may also include unanswered threads where a lot of "Me too!" posters
are congregating.
For those cases it helps to append MVP (or MSFT) to your search terms,
not because those are the only or even the best answers but because
it can help reduce the number of threads you have to read to try to find
a useful response.
Unfortunately unmarked threads in these forums are aged out after about
3 months even if they contain useful information. So it's possible that you
your problem may have been dealt with successfully but differently in the past.
In that case you need to learn how to use Google Groups which has an
apparently unlimited retention policy and much more comprehensive search
syntax. For example here is a search result which probably contains
a helpful answer for you:
http://groups.google.com/groups?q=(0x8024001D+OR+8024001D)++(MSFT+OR+MVP)++group%3Amicrosoft.*.windowsupdate&start=0&scoring=d&
(Google Groups search for
(0x8024001D OR 8024001D) (MSFT OR MVP) group:microsoft.*.windowsupdate
- sorted by date
)
Normally I would pick one for you but I suggest you try looking
there for yourself for this case.
Notice the possibilities in the syntax: you can use Boolean expressions
(AND is the implied operator); you can specify patterns for the set of groups
you want to search (In this particular case it is just shorthand to match this
newsgroup.) and you can sort by date. Other attributes and operators
are also available.
Hmm... they may be deprecating manual use of the advanced search
syntax in favour of the (much more limited) Advanced search page.
Here is the only remaining trace that I can find of a description of some
of the other options:
http://groups.google.com/googlegroups/deja_syntax.html
(Google web search for
"insubject" advanced syntax boolean groups site:google.com
)
BTW notice that your Subject: is not going to be very useful
for anybody else to help decide if they should look at this thread.
Always consider that you are posting not just for yourself but
for anybody else who may happen to find your thread.
Therefore, it is more important to be accurate and complete,
especially when choosing a Subject. <w>
