Re: KB896688 repeat

MS extended Support twice already, Marcus.

Guus is /not/ running Win98.

I continue to believe /your/ problems are not being caused by 896688.

Even Microsoft's 2nd tier tech support agrees that the only way to repair
this problem, for the MANY CUSTOMERS who are experiencing it, is to redo the
update so that it works with ALL operating systems......including Win2K03.
There should be an alert posted on the update site that this update can
knock out your Active X controls. It would save many of us a lot of time
jumping through hoops troubleshooting. By the way, making a personal issue
over a documented technical problem is a cheap shot, and not worthy of Pa
Bear, and his generally helpful approach. "Disgruntled"......because this
update is a lemon!

Guus, Marcus is a disgruntled poster here (I believe his problems are not
related to 896688) and furthermore, he's running Win98 while you're running
Win2k03 (apparently).

Try uninstalling 896688 via Add/Remove Programs and then reinstall it
manually via a download from the appropriate link here:

This boodongle, KB896688 ought to be removed form the Update Site until
Microsoft figures it out. At least they should put an alert on the site
that
it has been problematic for many . Sorry can't be more of a help at this
time.

KB896688 seems to install (shown in Add/Remove programs), but keeps
reporting in automatic updates. Different machines have the same problem.
I
even created a separate virtual pc system to see what's the problem, but
even this machine shows the problem. Looked around on the Internet, but
didn't find final solution. Please help.
