This boodongle, KB896688 ought to be removed form the Update Site until
Microsoft figures it out. At least they should put an alert on the site that
it has been problematic for many . Sorry can't be more of a help at this
time.

KB896688 seems to install (shown in Add/Remove programs), but keeps
reporting in automatic updates. Different machines have the same problem. I
even created a separate virtual pc system to see what's the problem, but
even this machine shows the problem. Looked around on the Internet, but
didn't find final solution. Please help.
