It is now Sunday afternoon and I have spend the entire weekend between
Microsoft and HP (My printer) people. It seems that the printer also
installs .Net framework ver 1.1 and HP said the duplication of programs may
be from re-installing my printer. I had to re-install because each time I
uninstall .Netframwork, the printer will not work and needs to be
re-installed. Each support group is pointing to the other for the
solution--which always comes back to un-install and re-install. So, I
thought a new approach..I uninstalled net framework every way I could and
then uninstalled the printer...and reinstalled the printer letting the HP
program install net framework. I saw it install but again when done, the
update KB886903 will not install still looking for the infamous "tmp53.tmp".
The only thing I can see now, is when I manually uninstall net framework,
While in the registry I also set the installed key for
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\.NETFramework\1.1\
M886903 & S867460 "Installer" key from "1" to "0" as you previously
suggested.
My thoughts are that MAYBE I should remove the two update keys for M886903
and S867460 all together as I do not seem to really have those updates. I
am not proficient in the registry and would value your opinion on this
matter.
