Re: Can't Upgrade

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi;

Just a wild shot, but open RegEdit and go to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer

In the right pane, check the version number and other numbers there. They should be "6.0.2900.2180" --- especially note the decimals. If your system has been set to use comma delmiters or anything other than decimals, change the version values there to reflect the decimal content. If that doesn't work, double check the Control Panel, Regional Options, and Customize that to use the decimal versus a comma or other character in numbers.

Just an idea. HTH

I have XP Pro. I just got a message that I need to upgrade with "free
software" to view an MSN Video. So I followed the links that led me to
upgrade to IE 6. But I have 6, and when I try to use the download, I
get a message that there is a newer version already on the system.

So I decided I need to apply SP2, and got a message that I need IE
version 5 or higher to use the SP2 upgrade.

So I am sort of stuck: I have 6, but can't upgrade it, and can't
apply SP2 because something, somewhere, thinks I have IE version
lower than 5.

Is this familiar to anyone?

Thanks.
