Re: Win2000 server WSUS?

Hi,

You can use a WSUS server even if you don't have Active Directory. You
just need to set some registry values on the clients, using e.g. a
registry file or a script.

To obtain the correct registry values to deploy:

I suggest you use gpedit.msc on a WinXP SP2 computer to configure the
Automatic Updates settings policy, and after having done that, you can
export the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
(including the sub-key named AU) to a registry file, or use some
other method to deploy those setting to your clients).

Those registry values are also documented in the WSUS deployment
guide:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/library/WSUS/WSUSDeploymentGuideTC/75ee9da8-0ffd-400c-b722-aeafdb68ceb3.mspx

And a fyi:

Please post WSUS related issues to the newsgroup dedicated to WSUS:
microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services

(the microsoft.public.softwareupdatesvcs newsgroup is for SUS)

WebNews link to the WSUS newsgroup:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services

Or use a newsgroup reader (default Outlook Express) to access this new group:

Clicking on this link should open this group in OE:
