Re: Win2000 SP4 rollup on a server

I just downloaded, on another computer, the security rollup package for
Windows 2000 SP4. I installed this package on a Windows 2000 Advanced
Server server.
Now, on that server, I am at Windows Update, and it's installing 20
security updates, and the "Installing Updates" box says things like
"Downloading Security Update, February 13, 2002".
It looks like the things that should have been installed by the rollup
package are being reinstalled by the Windows Update site.
Ah, now it's downloading Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 server SP4,
31.20 MB, which is exactly what I installed earlier today. Something
seems broken.
Sometimes, if MDAC and/or MSXML 4 is not up to date, Windows Update
doesn't see the Rollup 1 as installed:

In the thread in the link above Dave Hawley mentioned that the problem
seemed to be caused by
<quote>
....two components of Windows were out of date.
These were MS Data Access Components 2.8,
which needed to be upgraded to SP1, and MSXML 4.0,
which needed to be upgraded to SP2.
</quote>
He found this from running MBSA 1.2.1
There are specific version checker programs for both components:

Downloading that rollup on one computer and installing it on another
doesn't seem to work. The computer I downloaded FROM was not a server,
but the install of that package on the server SEEMED to do something,
and it didn't complain that it wasn't the right version or anything.
It is the same update for both servers and workstation, it doesn't
matter what computer you use to download it.
