If you are using A2 (a-squared) Personal, create an IDS exclusion for
iexplore.exe and explorer.exe. Also, make sure all the various web sites are
added to your TRUSTED zone in IE and in your firewall. In Control Panel -
Internet Options, go to the Security tab to Trusted sites. Click on the
Sites button. Uncheck the option to require https. Add the following sites
to the Trusted zone. That solved the problem for me. When you go to the
Microsoft Update again for the first time, make sure ALL security software
and your firewall are turned OFF. This will allow the ActiveX control to
install and register properly. Then restart your computer with all your
security, and it should work fine.
