Fix for failed install of Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool

I'm on a Win2k non-networked home computer, had repeated failures
installing WGA,
required for v6 of Windows Update. Found these errors in my Windows
Update Log:
WARNING: Failed to obtain SusClientId
WARNING: GetUserTokenFromSessionId failed with hr 0x800706d3
WARNING: AU found no suitable session to launch client in
WARNING: Failed to find token for
S-1-5-21-1715567821-1708537768-1202660629-1000 with hr = 800706d3.
WARNING: Failed to evaluate Installed rule, updateId =
{ED300F67-421C-4C08-B3BA-F35C55F3B427}.100, error = 0x80041017
WARNING: WU client failed installing updates with error 0x80240020
If any of above looks familiar, you can try my solution. First error is
failure to connect with WU client, thus WU couldn't get SusClientID
which I have under the WindowsUpdate key in my Registry. Lack of
Administrative permissions would cause this, but in my case was a
networking issue. Right-click Properties for a connection in Network
and Dial-up Connections, then select Networking tab. Along with
Internet Protocol should see listing for File and Print Sharing for
Microsoft Networks and Client for Microsoft Networks: both should be
checked. If one is missing, use Add button to install. After reboot I
was able to finish install of WGA control and the other security
updates. As side benefit Automatic Updates - MIA from my computer for
years - also started working again.
