Re: MBSA & HFNetChkPro

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Try using MBSA 1.2.1 instead, e.g. its mbsacli /hf -v -z
although even that isn't as good as I remember how it once was.

MBSA 2.0 seems to be missing things.
(e.g. MDAC 2.8 and MSXML 3.0 updates)

See final post from Dave Hawley in thread
"Windows 2000 SP4 Rollup "Sticking"

http://www.microsoft.com/communities/newsgroups/en-us/default.aspx?dg=microsoft.public.windowsupdate&mid=5e47611f-4cf1-4d6c-ad14-2f031314fe3f&sloc=en-us

OT: where is HFNetChk getting their mssecure.xml file from now?
Or is there a new implementation for it too? Dave's thread showed me
how out of touch I had become with options for version checking.

Another much touted freebie is Belarc's scanner.
What does it show you? Apparently Dave's results
weren't too impressive. <eg>

The only other things that I can think of would be to see if
activating verbose logging for WU allows you to understand
the differences between the checkers any better. (ref. KB902093)

My guess would be that WU is being blocked by assumptions
made from registry information which HFNetChk particularly
with its -v -z options can be made to ignore (assuming it still has those?
<w>)

Good luck
