I have xp home sp2 and also had that problem- lost automatic update due to
BITS can not be started. Seek Microsoft email support twice and failed, tried
to research myself, after 2 months of off and on search. finally found one
that works..... restarted the BITS (background intelligent Service) by
inputing the following registry:
click start, run: type in the following entry, then hit enter after each one;
regsvr32 oleaut32.dll
regsvr32 jscrip.dll
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
Of course you have to check if you have the correct configuration of your
BITS.
Should be started, set it automatic, log on tab should be log on to local,
interract
to local desktop should be UNcheck, And service should be enabled.
Please not that the above registry postings was taken from the original
postings
of Justin H a few weeks ago. And I was able to thank him. Thanks Justin!
