Create a new temp folder: C:\Temp
Click Start, Settings, Control Panel, "System", "Advanced" tab.
At the bottom of the window, click the "Environment Variables" button.
Edit the TEMP and TMP items to point to the new C:\Temp folder.
Click "OK", reboot, and try the update again. It should work now.
Reboot, and delete the C:\Documents and Settings\{your account}\Local Settings\Temp folder.
Now edited the Environment Variables again to make them as they were before.
TEMP was "%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp"
TMP was "%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp"
Reboot again.
That should do it.
