Hi Charles,
did you check your security settings in IE for all the neccessary microsoft
URLs?
It is advisable to add the following URLs to your trusted zones:
http://download.windowsupdate.com
https://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://*.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://*.update.microsoft.com
http://*.download.microsoft.com
