how do I stop the download in progress

I did a reinstall on a friends PC (XP Home w/ SP1). When I fired up Windows
Update, it first downloaded a newer version, then it began downloading other
things. My friend only has a dialup connection. I noticed that the
download was taking forever, so I assumed it must be SP2. I got SP2 from a
CD and installed it. Two issues:
1. Anytime I reconnect to the internet, the download continues from where it
last left off. Is there anyway I can kill this? (I'm thinking that Windows
Update doesn't deal with the fact that I installed SP2 in the middle of the
download. I hope if I kill the download that it won't try to download it
again.)
2. I'm used to seeing a list of what Windows Update wants to download, and
being able to chose what it actually will download. I no longer see this
list. Is there any way I can get this functionality back?
Thanks!
