Re: Update failure after BITS 2.0 installed

Hi, Robert

My ReportingEvents.log OLD indicates that BITS 2.0 (KB842773) was
successfully downloaded and installed on 2004-08-15. The log files continues
to record AU checking for updates until 2004-09-20 when it begins reporting
download failures, with the 80072F78 error message or sometimes with the
8020001b error message. All subsequent updates have failed with either of
those two error messages.

I installed SP2 from the MS CD in October 2004, I can't see the exact date.
Because the download failures began prior to the SP2 installation I assume
the failure is related to KB842773.

AU is enabled and Started.

I have shut down or killed all third processes including AV and proprietory
firewall but left Windows FW running and then tried AU via a dial up
connection, ie avoiding any router settings, but without success.

I am being directed to windowsupdate/v6

Does this help you understand what might be going on?
