Roy,
KB894391 is a hotfix, not a regular release via Windows Update, afaik. How did you get this fix to your pc? from a link somewhere or from the Microsoft Download Center?
If you are viewing Windows Update history from the Option at website for Win Updates, it will not show.
If you use your Windows Explorer, and look at your Windows folder on your C drive (folder named Windows or WINNT), you should see a log file named KB894391. Take a look at it. It should have a notation (usually at the end) on success or failure of that installation.
Again using Windows Explorer, navigate to folder C:\Windows\system32 or C:\WINNT\system32.
There, look for these DLL files, do a right-click on each file, select Properties, and get their Version number:
Ole32.dll ,
Olecli32.dll ,
Olecnv32.dll ,
& Rpcss.dll
Their version (after this hotfix) should be 5.1.2600.2665
If you did not apply this hotfix, but your Windows is XP-Service Pack 2, the versions ought to be 5.1.2600.2595
If you applied this fix more than once, there ought to be no real harm. The same DLL files will be on the system, one occurrence each, in the System32 folder.
Suggestion: Do not apply Hotfixes unless you are very sure it applies to your pc's specific conditions, as outlined in specific MS article for "that hotfix".
In this instance, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894391
