Sam G,
Am slightly confused by your post. After installing SP2 the system booted up normally, correct ? Then the 9 updates were installed and now the system boots only to Safe Mode, correct ?
Suggest uninstalling the updates from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, one at a time, and then rebooting after each. Hopefully, this will determine which one of the updates is causing the issue.
Can you recall if any of the updates were for video adapter drivers ?

The upgrade to SP2 from SP1 on Windows XP Professional went well. After rebooting and upgrading the additional 9 hot fixes, my desktop now only boots up in Safe Mode even if I bring up the boot menu and select Normal. Norton AntiVirus comes back negative on any infected files.
Any ideas?
