Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Why do I see the error when I start my computer?

A. The problem you are encountering occurs when you shut down your computer. Because of this, Windows can’t notify you until you start your computer again.

Q. Will I continue to receive the error message every time I start my computer?

A. In some cases, you might see the error message every time you start up your computer. In other cases, you might see an error occasionally. This is dependent on each individual computer. In either case, the error actually occurred when you shut down your computer.

Q. Is there additional information available that explains the problem in greater technical detail?

A. Not yet. Microsoft is currently working on a Knowledge Base article for this error. We will include a link to the article in this response when the solution becomes available.

This message is for Ronaldo and possibly it may be of value to the rest of
you After Ronaldo's, last posting regarding the update KB873333,, I decided
to reinstall XP which resulted in my having to reinstall a lot of drivers and
programs; but fortunately gave me the opportunity to reinstall the updates
and by excluding the update he advised, I have been able to restore my
computer to "normal" and have no further problems with Win32 host services. I
would suggest that it may be worth your while to try a reinstall of Windows
and when you update your computer ignore the one security update. It worked
for me -- Ronaldo if you are reading this "thank you"
