Big Blue Error

My mother installed the two new security updates (Windows ME) this morning
when she logged on. She proceeded to acess the internet and it wouldn't load
(not the major problem). So she thought perhaps restarting the computer may
be a good idea as she had installed the security updates.
But now when restarted she is promted to put in her password which she did
(this isnt the problem) and windows begins to load. The familiar little
windows tune plays and some icons load then the screen turns blue and she is
presented with an error:
06 : 0000 : 00000017
And the usual press ctrl+alt+delete to restart any key to contunue.
Restarting simply repeats the error. After pressing enter to continue a few
times (and looping through the same message coming back again and again) she
got blue screen error:
OE : 019f : BFF8E64B
After pressing enter at this screen her computer "wallpaper" appears whith
no buttons icons or toolbars AT ALL. The only thing is a white message/error
box with the message
Explorer caused a general protection fault in module KRNL386.exe at 0001 :
00007a96
Then after pressing the only option button which is CLOSE. The second blue
error returns.
OE : 019f : BFF8E64B
Then the white box comes back this time STATEMGR caused the fault.
Then press close
Then blue error: OE : 019f : BFF8E64B
Then enter key on keyboard again
Then the white box comes back this time MSTASK caused the fault
Then press close
Then blue error: OE : 019f : BFF8E64B
Then enter key on keyboard again
Then the white box comes back this time STMGR caused the fault
Then press close
Then blue error: OE : 019f : BFF8E64B
Then enter key on keyboard again
Then the white box comes back this time NISUM caused the fault
The gaps between the white errors are sometimes a few seconds to a minute
with her screen scompletely blank exept from her "wallpaper".
Quite the problem. She really needs this fixed ASAP. Thank you very much
ps. we are lucky enough to have two computers with internet acess in our
house. But how many people may be stuck out there with the same problem and
no way to tell you? Or is it just us and how can we fix it.
