Thanks for the clarification. So long as it does not override my
settings, I don't have to worry about the nightmare of troubles I had
trying to install SP2.

You should be able to understand what my problem was here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;873148. I was
told by an MVP in "Microsoft.public.windows.help_and_support Thread
subject: windows xp sp2 installation error" to use subinacl. I have
been afraid to after what I went thru. It would take me 3 weeks to
re-install everything and get back to norm.

Would you would be so kind to answer one question for me. My troubles
with the install of SP2 (I wince at the name) led me to
http://forum.aumha.org/viewtopic.php?t=8125. My problem is that I am
running XP home and it is not listed in the Sys requirements. Will I
be able to run subinacl in XP home edition?:

      Quote:
      1. Download and install subinacl from:

      http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e8ba3e56-d8fe-4a91-93cf-ed6985e3927b&displaylang=en

      2. Create a file named reset.cmd in C:\Program Files\Windows
Resource
      Kits\Tools folder.

      3. Edit the reset.cmd file with the following content.

      subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=administrators=f
      subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=administrators=f
      subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=administrators=f
      subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=administrators=f

      subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE /grant=systems=f
      subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CURRENT_USER /grant=system=f
      subinacl /subkeyreg HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT /grant=system=f
      subinacl /subdirectories %SystemDrive% /grant=system=f

      4. Enter into CMD prompt.

      5. Enter the following commands one at a time and click Enter.

      cd\
      cd "C:\Program Files\Windows Resource Kits\Tools"
      reset.cmd

      6. After a few minutes by processing subinacl, please test the
problem
      again.
