"rlweaver2",

I am sorry that you are hitting this issue. The installation of the
manufacturer's latest and greatest driver appears not to have worked
completely. Try this:
1. Download the latest and greatest driver for XP on your M-Audio Firewire
410. If this is in a self-extracting zip file or some other compression
tool, please extract it.
2. Remember the directory where your installation files exist.
3. If your file is an executable, but does NOT have an OEMSETUP.INF file,
then skip to step 18.
4. Assuming there may be executables, but there is ALSO an OEMSETUP.INF
file, then Click Start.
5. Click Run
6. Type: devmgmt.msc and press the <Enter> key or click OK.
7. After the device manager opens, find the M-Audio Firewire 410, and select
it.
8. Right-click on the device and when prompted, click Update Driver...
9. Click the radio button regarding checking Windows Update as "No, not this
time" and click Next
10. Check the radio button, "Install from a list or specific location
(Advanced)" and click Next
11. Check the radio button, "Don't search. I will choose the driver to
install." and click Next
12. Click the "Have Disk" button
13. Click the "Browse" button, and browse for the folder from step 2.
14. Click OK on the "Install from Disk" window.
15. You should see a valid driver for the equipment.
16. Choose a valid driver, or if none exists, or if you receive a popup
telling you that the selected location does not have a driver for your
hardware, reply back to this newsgroup and let us know.
17. Assuming there is a valid driver, and you've selected it, click OK and
let it update.
18. If it asks for a reboot to complete installation, then reboot.
19. Check to see if other updates are installed along the way, as Audio
drivers typically do have multiple devices.

Let us know how this goes, and indeed if anything will play normal audio
files, such as software other than Windows Media Player.

Sincerely,

Pat Walters [MSFT]
