i 2 had a buggy slow system before & after SP2 installed caused by viruses
on a Dell 2400.

Wiped system cleaned via quick format, reloaded XP Home +SP1,
then successfully applied SP2 from MS CD & attempted WinUpate for additional
patches.
Updates failed until I accepted " Publisher " first; thereafter normal
operation.

what is " Publisher " in XP update process ?
