Curiously, this morning the Windows Update icon appeared again and
told me that it was downloading an update. It transpired it was the
update I'd told it to download a couple of days ago. Perhaps the
server was busy and it decided to try again later, or perhaps there
was some other reason. More information would be nice.

Anyway, I managed to grab the update file from the download folder so
now I've updated all three of my XP systems.
