Jupiter: I really appreciate all your hard work to help
those who need it,
and these important steps (that you provided) are crucial to
complete, which
should be done by everyone, regularly whether updating
service packs or not.
Even with a new out of the box computer, if not properly
protected before
connecting to the Internet it can be compromised in a matter
or seconds.
even if you are on dial up/dsl etc..

I guess my voraious reading has paid off, since I've
never had "one"
single service pack problem with WinXP and 98 sec ed.. or MS
Office "ever".

I've given your link to many people who had problems,
who swear they
followed it to the letter, but upon further probing, I find
out they skipped
or over looked something, on the list, and feel obliged to
blame MS for
there mistake and problem.

The biggest excuse I hear is I don't have time to do all
of that, and I
don't need to, so I tell them well I geuss you'll just have
to keep putting
up with crashes, viruses, malware and have to reload
everything you lost
during a crash, which really takes more time and
aggrevation, than doing it
right the first time.

    I know I could successfully install SP2 on they're
computers, but they
always come back with "no matter what" it won't work,
because it is a
problem within SP2, and I just can't get through to them, no
matter what.
There are many problems that can occur without the users
knowledge, so they
think they are clean.

Thanks again for all you good work, and timely replies to
everyone!!

| Well I'm getting the same behaviour too, Marty.
| Tried to install it 4 times now, always get a failure
notice and last night
| got the dreaded freeze too.
| I assume we don't really need this update, going by the
link posted by John
| M (thanks BTW).
| Long as the old processor keeps running is ok with me!
(I've got an XP
| 3000+).
