I used KBA 875355 to attempt recovery from blue screens, etc. from a failed
SP2 download and installation. At restart from step 3 of using my recovery
CD, r option,I restart with the Desktop showing but no taskbar or Start
button. The machine is extremely sluggish in the restart and on. I
attempted to go to Contol Panel and remove the SP2 program and the SP2
Hotfix. This consumed the machine for more than 8 hours with no appreciable
change. The desktop icons are in place but the few programs (Excel, Word)
that I tried to start wouldn't open a file. The program list in Add/Remove
still shows the SP2 but has no entry for size, etc. The machine is basically
not functional. I'm at the point of doing the complete XP recovery and
suffer the loss of programs and data. Any options? Thanks in advance.
