Hi,
Been trying to find a fix for this for a few days now, just discovered this
forum and now working through the suggested fixes I've found in the posts.
So far I've re-enabled Automatic Updates and BITS and checked the permissions
for Administrator and System, both without success. Just tried to delete the
contents of the Software Distribution folder but there's a file called
ReportingEvents.log which I can't delete - get a message that it's in use by
another programme though I've closed all open programmes.
Also, for the last couple of days my cursor has been driving me nuts,
changing to the 'busy' eggtimer every 15 secs for three or four secs - when I
check running processes I've seen that this coincides with wuactl.exe cutting
in and out, and it's been happening since I reregistered some WU dll files.
I reregistered them because it was suggested as a fix for the first problem I
had, getting the new version of the WU software installed. It worked for
that, but now get the 0x800A01AD error when I scan for updates.
I've checked the Windows Update log and no error messages there, but no
reference to v5 either .... I've copied the last few entries below.
I'm running XP Home.
