After installing SP2 my PC would crash on boot. I could
only boot into safe mode. Tracked the problem to
something running afoul of the new DEP feature. Can turn
off DEP feature by modifying boot.ini and changing
noexecute=optin to noexecute=alwaysoff. Further research
indicates that the offending "something" is likely Visual
IP insight (IVPNMON.SYS), which is a program installed by
ISP's to monitor service quality. Next step is to either
add this to the list of "trusted" programs that DEP will
ignore or else remove with add/remove programs. Will
write an update after I've tried that...
