Well it worked for me, but not without some scares. First, when installing I
got a message stating that installing in SAFE mode was not recommended.
Great. Then, when the system restarted, I got the security center welcome
screen. Ok, so far so good. Exitign that I got.... nothing. Just my
wallpaper. No taskbar, CTRL-Esc did nothing, right clicking on the wallpaper
did nothing. CTRL-ALT-DEL brought up the task manager which showed very
little running. Several re-boots got the same result. I was able to use task
manager to start iexplore, which let me get to Microsoft, I attempted to open
a chat window in the support site. I felt as if I was in some sort of bizarre
alternate dimension as I watched the estimated wait time steadily climb,
pausing only at 13 Minutes, 13 seconds for a while, before increasing.
Frustrated, I re-booted again. This time I brought up the safe mode window.
On a hunch, I selected normal startup and, low and behold, it worked! At
close to midnight now I 'm beat. Hopefully this is the end. I guess I'll
find out tomorrow if everything works.

Thanks, Mike, for passing on the solution.

Cheers,
Dave
