Ben,

I was having the same problem and tried many things on the discussion group.
I finally got it to work when I reset the security level to low
(Tools:Internet Options...:Security) and restarted IE (think I restarted the
computer as well but I doubt this is necessary) with these sites listed in
the trusted sites (Tools:Internet Options...:Trusted Sites: Sites):

https://V4.Windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://V4.Windowsupdate.microsoft.com
https://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://Windowsupdate.microsoft.com
http://Download.Windowsupdate.com

Don't think you really need the V4 websites.
