Windows Update Is Not Installed - WinXP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;811269
You are using a version of the AOL software earlier than AOL 8.0 Plus.
-and-
You use the AOL Web browser interface to access and download Windows Updates.
The AOL Web browser that is included with versions of the AOL program that are
earlier than AOL 8.0 Plus did not communicate correctly with the Windows
Installer software. As a result, Windows Installer may stop responding.

Windows Update Troubleshooter
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/troubleshoot/
Updates fail to install and you receive error message 0x80070643 - WinXP

Check the C:\WUtemp to see if the Update files exist as being downloaded. What
happens is that a folder is created for the update and inside the folder is the
actual installation file. Once the install is successful the WUtemp folder will
be empty.

You can download them from the Catalog and save to be installed later.

How to Download Windows Updates and Drivers from the Windows Update Catalog
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=323166

Click Add button for each update you want to download. Once you have what you
want, Click the “Go To Download Basket” link. Type in or browse to the location
where you want the updates saved to and then Click the “Download Now” button.
Once downloaded, you can then burn them to CD.
