Al;
Your mistake was connecting to the internet with the firewall
disabled.
You did not need to do anything or go anywhere on the internet.
All that was needed was you the unprotected computer connected to the
network and the messages get to the computer.
You did not "trigger" them, being connected to the internet
unprotected was enough.

1. No firewall
2. Many places, sometimes infected computers sent them.
3. It only takes a second for an unprotected computer.
4. Some of this is why SP-2 is out.
Sony or Best Buy do not have a CD, you will be able to order it from
Microsoft about 25 August:

Or download and burn to CD, #1 on this link:

I would suggest starting over:

DO NOT connect the network cable without the firewall enabled.
