Judy,
This is from a post made in 2002 :
================================================================
HOW TO INSTALL VECTOR GRAPHICS RENDERING FOR
INTERNET EXPLORER 6 ON THE WINDOWS ME OS
This is a copy of the remedy given to me by Microsoft Engineers
There are two methods:
METHOD 1:
Step 1: Check the registry key of the vector graphics rendering.
1. Click on Start --> Run. Input REGEDIT , then click on OK
Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
Components\{10072CEC-8CC1-11D1-986E-00A0C955B42F}
2. Double click its Version key on the right pane and change the
value to:
6,0,2462,0001
3. Then retry the installation. If the issue persists, please try
the following steps to install the Vector Graphics Rendering
manually. (THIS ONE WORKED FOR ME!)
METHOD 2
Step 2:
1. Create a folder on the C: drive and call it VGX
2. Download all the IE6 setup files to your hard disk
How to do this:
a. Download IE6 from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/ to your
local disk.
b. Double click ie6setup
c. Select INSTALL MINIMAL, or CUSTOMIZE YOUR BROWSER and click next.
d. Click the ADVANCED tab.
e. Select DOWNLOAD ONLY. NOTE: It lets us download all components to
local disk.
f. Click NEXT to finish the download.
3. EXTRACT the following 3 files into the C:\VGX folder: vgx.cat,
vgx.inf, vgx.dll. Do this by searching for the VGX.CAB file on your
hard drive. (It should be in the folder where we downloaded IE6 to
local disk). Double click on it.
4. Here is the tricky part. You must register the files from step 3
by clicking on START-->RUN, typing in the following line and
clicking OK. (You only need to enter this line once, with vgx.inf.
You do NOT need to repeat this with the other two files. They will
automatically be registered.) BE SURE TO TYPE THIS IN WITH A SPACE
BETWEEN EACH COMMAND AS SHOWN!!
Type in the following:
rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
C:\VGX\vgx.inf
Yes, a space between the 132 and the C:\VGX\vgx.inf hehe!
This WILL install the Vector Graphics Rendering!!!
Make sure and click the OK! hehe
5. Now open REGEDIT and locate:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ActiveSetup\InstalledComponents\{10072CEC-11d1-986e-00A0C955B42F}
Check the right pane and make sure the Version is 6,0,2600,0000. If
the value: KeyFileName does not exist(which is what happened to me!
the value from METHOD 1 was still there!)Do the following:
RIGHT CLICK on the blank area below the other version and choose
NEW--> this will create a new value select STRING VALUE.
THEN MAKE SURE the value points to the vgx.dll file. In the STRING
VALUE BOX type: C:\VGX\VGX.DLL
THEN CLOSE the REGEDIT!
RESTART the computer and then the VECTOR GRAPHICS RENDERING WILL BE
INSTALLED!!! WOOT WOOT!!
After your PC restarts the IE6 setup program will start again asking
you to RESUME or BEGIN the setup process again. I ran the full
installation and a window opened saying ALL COMPONENTS ARE ALREADY
INSTALLED! It will advice you not to reinstall all components. Click
the box to exit the setup program(IN OTHER WORDS: DO NOT RUN SETUP
AGAIN!!!) and you are DONE!
