Ony of my clients (and a lot of other fellow Home Hardware dealers)
encountered a situation where 867801 broke PDF printing from the
online Claims Processing system.
The PDF bit is a red-herring since the problem is actually due to
the inability to spawn a new secure page which does the actual PDF output.
The process is driven by Java using an Oracle jar (based on info in
the java console). This java code has its own issues since there is
no return code propagation/checking. The relevant claims info is
submitted which is supposed to trigger the opening of another html
page (probably secure) which references the PDF-ized oracle-spew.
When the page fails to open, Iexploder undoubtedly kicks out a non-zero
return code, but the java admin/meta code either doesn't bother checking
the error status, or else ignores the status and doesn't issue any
messages/warnings/notices. Just a deathly silence...
Uninstalling 867801 by using AddRemovePrograms and targeting
"Internet Exploder Q867801" fixed the problem. I'll just turn off
the autoupdate.
I guess the same sophisticated security expertise that gave us
OutlookExpress' (and Outlook's for that matter) "deny access to any
attachment which has or could have a virus or other undesireable content"
security paradyme is at play here: "block access to any secure page which
has or could have access to any non-secure or security-compromising content"
