How can I randomize updates?

Here's the senario:
I have SUS installed on a central server. We have a number of remote LANs
which are on the same public IP address range however they don't log into a
domain, although some also have local servers. I want all PCs and servers to
update from our central server however the fact is that our PCs are installed
from image which means that if I configure Windows updates in the local
policy they would all be looking for updates at the same time. I want to
ramdomize the time of the update to ensure that I don't create conjestion. I
have around 3000 clients and can randomize symantec updates no probs.
