Can't view updates to download them

I just installed Win 2K Pro on a PC. I have a DSL. I am
able to get to the windows update site & scan the PC. It
says that there are 24 updates. Then when I click
on "Review & install" it takes some time then gives me
an "Action canceled" page on the right hand side of the
screen where the updates should be listed. I then went and
downloaded IE 6 manually to update it. I then do the scan
again & click on "Review & install". The same thing
happens.
I have another Win2K Pro on the same network & it has no
problems getting the updates. Also when I try to post in
these news groups from the problem PC. It times out as
well & doesn't put the post. I then have to go to my other
Win2K Pro machine to post this post.
How am I suppose to update the OS? Any idea why I can't
post in the newsgroups either?
