Lucy,
Thank you for responding. I assume that I must have these
rights as I am doing the updates logged on as DOMAIN
ADMINISTRATOR. Furthermore, unless the last successful
update changed something I can't see what was going on. I
am the only person accessing this system at this time, and
the sequence of operation was to scan for updates,
implement everything possible and then search and
implement again, because the first round included DirectX
9 and Media Player 9 for which I knew there ware updates
subsequent to installing it. It did everything
successfully on the first round and immediately failed on
the following. Nothing else and no one have worked on the
system in between. BTW - this is repoducible: this is the
2nd time this happens. The first time I let it go but then
realized I had a disk configuration that would not fit the
purpose of the server so I reinstalled from scratch and
the very same things happens again.
