Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Three things.

First, make sure you don't have Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120% installed.
If you do, uninstall them until you finish the upgrade. These will
lock up the atapi.sys file and have given a few other problems as well.
Also, are you running Windows Media Player 10?

Second, have you tried downloading the network install version onto your
computer and trying it through that? This method seems to work a little
better. The link is here -
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/winxppro/sp2preview.mspx
Just make sure to choose the network install. The download will be
larger and take longer, but it may fix the problem.

Third, clean up your system a little if possible. Run a ScanDisk, visit
www.lavasoftusa.com and download Ad-Aware and run it, check for viruses
(if you don't have a scanner check out
http://us.mcafee.com/root/mfs/default.asp?cid=9913). Also, uninstall
any software that is unnecessary and try again.

I highly doubt it is a hardware problem as CRC errors occur outside of
faulty hardware. Generally CRC errors occur due to corrupt files or bad
data transfters.

Here is a snip from http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000430.htm

Cause: [for CRC Errors]

This error message could be generated by any of the following reasons:

    1. During the transmission of the file it became corrupt or bad
    2. The file was sent inappropriately
    3. The device being opened from is bad or contains errors
    4. The file itself is bad or the program attempting to open the file
is bad.
