Same problem here. Been running win 2000 pro for years, and just this
weekend I discovered a handful of virus infections and some spyware on
this little used machine (no Outlook installed, and behind a Linux
firewall).
After cleaning up the viruses with Panda, and the spyware with the AOL
checker, I am left with a Windows update that refuses to run cause it
says I am not Administrator.
I think this may be part of a virus/exploit, intended to prohibit
windows updates.
I have been searching the newsgroups all weekend, and updating virus
defs daily. Panda has found a couple of new virii, each day, so I
think maybe in a week or two they will have a fix for this one...
Gonna boot up Knoppix now, until Microsoft figures this one out...
