Hello everyone.
I have a perhaps stupid question about windows update in XP and 2000.
We have about 450 workstations and we have 4 system admins. now we found out
unfortunately that the automatic update does not want to work the way we
hoped. This is what it does:
All users log in as unprivileged users. we scheduled all PC's to download
updates at a set time. This is spread throughout the days of the week (you
never know if an update wrecks a system and we dont want to have all of a
sudden 450 death workstations)
Oke it looks like it is downloading oke. When I on occasion get passed a
system, I check and SOME updates seems to be installed. al LOT more dont.
when I fire up the windowsupdate site, it tells me that there are over 20
critical updates left, including some service packs etc.
So when I look at the registry I see that the AUState is on occasion 5
(installation pending), and at times 8 (reboot pending). I would think that
after a reboot the 8 stat ould be changed to 2, and that the 5 would be
automatically installed when the scheduled time arrives.. but it doesnt work
like that.
Do I have to run around every PC and login as administrator to fix this
every month? Please tell me that there is a different solution..
HELP
a very sad Ramses
